The Carnaval Experience is a must when visiting Rio! The tour was included as part of a '5-day Rio de Janeiro: A Journey into Afro Culture' tour presented by DMC but you may book separately as well. Lydia was the tour guide for the day and described the history of Carnaval while changing effortlessly from English (for me as the only tourist from the US) to French (the remaining tourists). The tour includes an in depth explanation of Carnaval from the planning stage until the final parade. Lydia ensured she pointed out all aspects with African routes to make the experience uniquely special for me. Book this tour!

We were late due to traffic, but they still accommodated us. It was such a great experience. We learned what it takes to make the floats and costumes for carnival. It is very top secret. There were parts of the tour that we were not allowed to take pictures. We also had the opportunity opportunity to put the costumes on and see Samba dancing live.

Wow, what a tour! Ton gave us an amazing walkthrough of the Grande Rio School of Samba. He was super clear, friendly, energetic, and felt really at ease. The staff were all really respectful, attentive, and made us feel like we were part of the family. It was a great way to learn about what goes into making a Carnaval presentation and get a real inside look at the process. My wife and I wore the costumes, danced samba and even enjoyed a delicious caipirinha. Highly recommended!!

Must-Do in Rio! Lighthearted, Fun, and Incredibly Informative Carnaval Experience was an absolute highlight of my time in Rio! From the moment we arrived, the energy was infectious—joyful, welcoming, and full of that unmistakable Brazilian spirit. The tour was not only fun and immersive but also surprisingly educational. I left with a much deeper appreciation for the culture, history, and artistry behind Carnaval. We got to try on stunning costumes, dance to samba rhythms, and even meet people involved in the actual preparations for the parade. It felt like stepping behind the curtain of one of the world’s greatest celebrations. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or returning to Brazil, this experience is a fantastic way to connect with the heart and soul of Rio. Don’t miss it!

What an amazing experience! The tour started right on time, no delays. It lasted almost 2 hours. As it's off peak season, the group was small. Although there was a mix of English and Portuguese speaking people, our guide did her very best to explain everything in both languages. The tour is in their huge warehouse where you can see all the carnaval props, floats and costumes displayed. If you want to know the history and everything about Carnaval, this is definitely the place to be. At the end, you get to dress up in their costumes, try a glass of caipirinha and learn some simple samba steps while wearing the costume. (a previous review spoke about this, no, the costumes are not dirty) Toilet facilities are available and clean. (another reviewer complained about filthy toilets, not true) The tour requires climbing of stairs but just 2 floors. Not sure if there are lifts for those who visit and aren't able to go up stairs. I'm sure they do? Everything was great from start to end. Hopefully one day I'll be able to experience the real deal of the Carnaval Parade. Thank you everyone here!
